AI developed so fast that it caused a shockwave that threatened factory workers and owners, farmers, especially smallholdings as well as academics across the board.

Many academics feared that platforms such as ChatGpt would replace humans in jobs such as writing, call centre operators, engineers and people in myriad other fields including English language editors like ourselves, proofreaders, video creators, artists and many other creative people whose livelihoods depended on being able to flex their creatve muscles.
Thus, Brenda and I decided to do a deep dive to find out what was going on.
What we found was that the exact opposite was true. We discovered that the key to surviving the AI onslaught was and still is adaptation and exploring new ways to benefit hugely from AI development.
Benefits of AI
- AI can be used to save time and money by taking advantage of AI generated expertise to:
- Improve grammar, spelling and sentence construction.
- Generate creative ideas for writers to benefit from.
- Download AI generated graphics enhance text.
- Even write articles for writers in fields they are not familiar with – however, we do not advocate that students should overuse these facilities verbatim because plagiarism watchdog programmes will detect such overuse of these facilities and impose penalties.
These are just a small sample of the tools that can assist writers, editors and academics in general, and the wonderful thing about these platforms is that they are often provided FREE.

While you are writing, if you are using platforms such as Grammarly, or Google or WordPress miraculously, grammatical and spelling suggestions for improvement or word selection will pop-up in the margin, alongside the text, that you can accept or reject at will. It’s as if you have an assistant sitting beside you as you write.
Contrary to the dire predictions that human creativity is disappearing, we have noticed that recently, there has been an upsurge in people who are being inspired to write more, particularly among the youth. Also, indications are that for the foreseeable future, no computer programmes will be able to outperform human creativity; so, far from depriving people of their jobs, no one in academically inclined fields will lose their jobs.
The trick is to work hand -in-hand with computer and AI technology, to produce better outcomes for all.
AI is not your enemy! It is your friend. Where would we be today without Google and ChatGpi to find out about absolutely everything.
