What a year this has been so far.

The National elections surprised everyone, with The ANC showing a much worse result than was expected at 40%, with the DA following at 21.8% in an election wherein for the very first time, the ANC failed to attain 50% of the vote by a massive margin.

This marked the end of the ANCs 30 year-long dominance in the country and ushered in a new era of coalition government.

Then came the Government of National Unity or GNU.

The GNU has had tumultuous ride since then, with the ANC having completely pulled the wool over the DA’s eyes by failing to collaborate with the GNU members.

The ANCs attempt to force through a 1 percent VAT increase over the next 2 years; soundly blocked by the DA, who are now pursuing, serious legal action, has now resulted in a further worsening of public support; shown by an IRR poll that showed that; for the first time in the ANCs 113 year, history, it was beaten by an opposition party, whose share of the people’s support fell below 30%.

It’s anybody’s guess what will happen next, but what is abundantly clear is that the people have shown their disappointment in no uncertain terms by swinging away from the ruling party’s hegemony and that major change is coming in our country!

Our only hope is that the ANC’s stranglehold on the economy, growth, jobs and the lives of the people will be broken soon and a new type of government with more capable leaders will emerge, so life can improve for all our citizens.

Have a great Easter Weekend!
