Completing a thesis or dissertation is one of the most significant milestones in postgraduate study. After months or even years of research and writing, the final stages of submission and examination can feel overwhelming.

To assist students during this important stage, Busy Bee Editing has created a Student Toolkit that highlights common thesis defence questions and provides practical guidance to help students prepare for thesis submission and defence.

This guide is designed to help postgraduate students understand what examiners expect and how to prepare confidently for their defence

Master’ Defence: Key Examiner Questions

During a Master’s defence, examiners typically focus on the student’s understanding of the research project and its academic context.

Students should be prepared to answer question such as :

  • Why did you choose this research project?
  • What problem does your study address?
  • What is the purpose of your reearch?
  • How does your research relate to existing literature?
  • Why did you choose this methodology?
  • What are the limitations of your study?

These questions help help examiners to determine whether the student understands the purpose, design and and significance of the research.

The next blog in this series will provide a complete checklist on how to prepare your thesis for submission.
