This is without doubt the worst crisis to hit humanity since World War Two. the Corona virus pandemic threatens everyone, no matter where you live, what racial group you belong to, whether you are a good person or an evil one, whether you go to church or not.
The only thing that matters is to “protect yourself and others by following the guidelines set by the scientists and medical experts.
The problem is; as a species, #we are naturally gregarious, social beings. Staying away from other humans is against our nature as human beings. Confusion reigns. Presidents of countries, governers, civic leaders of all types, medical specialists, teachers; are all trying to guide us, but time is against us as a huge portion of the world’s population is staring #hunger or death in the face daily and no one has any real answers. With every day that goes by, economies slide downwards, businesses fail and #people get hungrier.
My personal view is that although obviously we must all work together, ultimately every one of us has to make a personal choice to treat the virus as a personal enemy by doing the basics right.
#PUT YOUR MASK ON WHEN YOU ARE CLOSE TO OTHERS IN PUBLIC SPACES, STAY SIX FEET AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE, STAY CLOSE TO HOME WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO OUT. DON’T LISTEN TO CONSPIRACY THEORIES. These things are basic and not difficult.
However, there are some glimmers of light! #HERD IMMUNITY will increase as more people recover from the virus.
The search for a vaccine worldwide is taking record breaking strides ahead. It might take months, not years to find and test a vaccine.
Infection rates, although they are spiking in some cases, seem generally to be trending downwards.
Testing of drugs; notably #Remdesivir at the moment, is continuing to provide hope. There is evidence that this drug is reducing Corona deaths. Even if we don’t have a drug yet that will simply fix the problem, researchers are tirelessly searching for drugs that will improve ways of finding methods of treating patients who have the virus better; that will make the patients more comfortable and improve their chances of complete recovery.
We must just continue to do the right thing and things will get better. South Africans are tough. This is not our first crisis and we will get through this!
