or is he just trying to save his own skin? Is Cyril Ramaphosa REALLY putting aside the interests of the ANC party for once and trying to save the country from a ghastly future in which the ‘Doomsday Coalition’ as John Steenhuizen of the DA puts it, drags us all down together.
We can only hope that Cyril is actually growing a backbone and that his intention is to persevere with formation of a GNU, including the DA, the IFP and if necessary the PA, because that is the only way in which we can start rectifying the 30-year-long destruction of our country.
As regards the renegade rabble rousers from the EFF and the MK, we have to assume that their intentions are socialist and totalitarian in nature. Socialism does not have a good record of success in recent world history, as demonstrated by what happened in the Soviet Union and Venezuela.
Even the Nordic countries such as Norway and Sweden are not truly Socialist. They are more centrist in nature.
Thus, if Ramaphosa has any sense, he will ignore the threatening posture adopted by Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema of the EFF and press forward with the GNU or a multiparty coalition. However, the problem that this plan poses for the ANC is that their Alliance partners, the SA Communist Party and Cosatu are adamantly opposed to any coalition that includes the DA. This would then herald another potential split in the ANC ranks, which would weaken the party even further.
Another question that needs to be answered refers to the former opposition party; the DA. John Steenhuizen, although he is riding high right now, cannot rest on his laurels too much, because when discussing a possible Government of National Unity with the ANC, he needs to consider his announcements on policy very carefully. If he gets too pally with Ramaphosa and the ANC top echelon, he might upset his support base by being seen as a turncoat; in view of his statements before the election wherein he said to his followers that they should RESCUE SOUTH AFRICA FROM THE ANC.
The difference between the DA’s vote total of 21.7% and the ANC’s 39% is only 17 % so, TREAD CAREFULLY MR STEENHUIZEN!

As of today – 11/6/2024, the political shenanigans going on in South Africa today are mind-blowingly confusing.
The whole country seems to be holding its breath, pending the outcome of the coalition/ GNU/ Minority Government Coalition/Grand Coalition debate … major businesses are in a holding pattern/the property market is extremely quiet … and so on …
Tomorrow, Friday, 14/6/2021, at 10 a.m. the 400 members of the National Assembly will witness the new/probably existing President of the country and the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will be elected and sworn into office.
MK, represented by Zuma’s attorney Dali Mpofu – remember him? – is taking legal steps against the IEC for mismanaging the election; and the MK is demanding that the election results should be discarded, and a new election should be held. However, given that the results have already been declared as ‘free and fair’ by the IEC, this move is deemed unlikely to succeed. These kinds of legal spoiling tactics were tried by Zuma previously during his presidency, with little success; except for the riots that occurred in 2021.
MK is apparently threatening to boycott the sitting in the Assembly and the air tickets and flights of the 58 MK delegates are being cancelled, due to their failure to respond to the ANC’s invitation to participate – so there’s a big Hoo-Ha about that. The Vice President of the EFF Floyd Shivambu has Floyd Shivambu has YD sHIVAMBUWho knows how that will turn-out? Thus, both the Non-Constitutionist parties have now
How is it possible that after 30 years of disastrous rule by the ANC, such momentous decisions that will determine the future of our country, will be made tomorrow?
