Bear in mind; price should not be your only consideration because there are many fly-by-night so-called proofreaders out there who think it’s just a quick way to make easy money!

  1. How long have they been doing proofreading/editing commercially?
  2. Are they accredited by the Oasis editors’ platform.
  3. Do they have a website?
  4. Do they have testimonials in their website?
  5. Do they offer ‘Tracking’ as a benefit to their clients.
  6. Do they pay attention to issues like the author’s ‘voice’, syntax, active and passive voice etc?
  7. Do they offer a double edit at no extra cost?
  8. Do they offer a range of additional services services such as cover design, e-book layout and developmental editing, in addition to copy-editing and proofreading?
  9. Will they be able to “get under the skin” of your writing, so as to present your thesis or book as closely as possible to your authentic ‘voice’, as an author.
  10. Do they do a sufficiently thorough job of proofreading/editing, so as to prevent any risk of plagiarism?
  11. Do they respond promptly to quote requests and do they have a fast turnaround time?
