To say that this man is an enigma is an understatement! a jailbird for 17 years; Mayor of Beaufort West; the town doesn’t seem to have done very well since he left! He is founder and leader of the Patriotic Alliance. He has now taken over from Julius Malema as CHAMPION OF INFLAMMATORY STATEMENTS. Recently, Mckenzie announced a plan to build a wall to keep illegal immigrants out of our country, which will cost 1.2 trillion Rands. Even more amazingly, he has had the gall to publicly threaten to personally turn off the oxygen illegal immigrants are receiving in hospital, that is keeping them alive!

Run by a coalition comprising the EFF the ANC and the Patriotic Front, the once beautiful town of Knysna in particular, as well as Plettenberg Bay have become a hotbed of corruption, disease and total mismanagement. We can only hope that the DA will take the lead in the area and succeed in getting it right.

Gauteng Province has been a complete disaster area for some time, what with exploding streets, potholes galore and a series of chaotic coalition governments where the political partners keep playing musical chairs; and who do we find in all these unfortunate regions of our country? well … Guess what … Gayton Mckenzie!

Now, to top it all, Mckenzie has now been appointed Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture. What does this former gangster know about sports, arts and culture? just asking?

Actually, I shouldn’t be surprised as President Ramaphosa has, since his appointment as President, been making it a habit to appoint criminal cadres to high-ranking positions in both government and private sector organisations.

My theory is that he and his fellow cabinet members deliberately appoint such people in order to distract the attention of the public away from what the criminal cadre leaders are really up to, as they pursue their nefarious activities such as stealing money from us, the citizens, as they play power games and bribe corporate leaders with kickbacks and other personal benefits.

In terms of his appointment as Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, he has just announced his intention to make Car Spinning a top-ranking sport in South Africa – Really?? I have always regarded Car Spinning merely as an excuse to feature pretty, scantily clad girls hanging out of the windows of spinning cars; which provides entertainment as well as an opportunity to promote marketing of products and services.

There are, however, a couple of things that Gayton is promising to do that make sense to some people; including me. Number one is bringing back the death penalty for crimes such as murder, rape, treason, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the like, because it will definitely help to control the crime rate, which is seriously high. If the crime rate is lowered in that way, it may also discourage the cadres from taking advantage of the public’s dejected attitude towards crime in general, held by many of us. That would be a great way to improve morale in the country, as well as encouraging more tourists to come to our beautiful country.

At least a year of national military service; as espoused by Gayton, would also improve the level of security in the country, and increase employment as ‘troopies’ would become skilled in many types of work in the military; and thus be better placed to get jobs after their stint is over.

What comes to mind though, is that now that he is installed in his new post, Gayton will be fully occupied in sport, arts and culture and thus will not be able to promote the above options.

As regards the crime rate, the news that Ian Cameron of the DA has been appointed head of the portfolio committee on policing seems very encouraging as he seems to be very determined to work hard at cleaning up all levels of policing; using a bottom-up approach. Thank heaven that the powers that be got rid of Bheki Cele as he was extremely bad news for the country.
