Tracking is a great programme for authors, university students and graduates, copywriters and proofreaders and editors. Instead of endlessly arguing over stylistic differences favoured by writers, ‘Tracking‘ is a clever little software programme that allows them to ‘self correct’ minor errors in manuscripts of all kinds; simply by giving them the opportunity to choose to accept or reject changes themselves, without having to email or Whatsapp endlessly, back and forth between editor and author.

As editors and proofreaders at Busy Bee Editing, we take great pains to explain in our quotes and in covering letters when we send invoices, exactly how to use ‘Tracking‘. It is very simple to use and saves an enormous amount of time and aggravation all round. YOU DON’T HAVE TO CUT AND PASTE TO FIX ERRORS.

If you have skimmed through the corrected document and are happy that the editor/proofreader has done a great job, then ‘Tracking’ gives you the option to accept the whole document without reading through it in detail. However; please note that once you have done that, you cannot go back and make changes! If that is the case, then you have to go back to the editor and ask him/her to send you a clean corrected copy (which they should have on file).

Then you can go through the manuscript, line by line and use ‘Tracking’ to either accept or reject changes until you are satisfied that everything is perfect and then click on ‘accept all’.

Authors have different styles and language changes all the time, so stylistic differences do arise. All authors have their own unique voice and language preferences which they want to maintain in their writing; and good editors will ‘get under the skin’ of the author’s style and reflect that.

That is why; although AI tools are extremely useful, to date, they have not replaced the human brain; but who knows what might happen in the future?

Try Tracking. It will change your life!
