It is hugely encouraging to see how a pack of young, enthusiastic ministers, deputy ministers and Portfolio Committee leaders are coming to the fore and spearheading a drive towards removing deadwood, bureaucracy and criminal corruption; thus ushering in a new spirit of collaboration across all races and political parties within the GNU – from my lips to God’s ears?
Dean Mcpherson Minister of Social Infrastructure and Social Development as well as the DA’s Chairperson of the KZN region …
has a weighty portfolio on his hands. However, at first glance, I am sure he will be up to the task as he presents himself as mature, articulate and determined to attack the heavy challenges that face him in this task.
He is only one of the new crop of predominantly young, clean-cut men and women who have been appointed to turn South Africa around in terms of development, growth in the economy, the fight against criminality and state capture, the cleaning-up of the judiciary, fair land redistribution WITH COMPENSATION! policing, cadre deployment, patronage, BEE, unemployment and service delivery, among other things.
At the moment he is at the centre of a massive controversy between the DA and the ANC, together with Pieter Groenewald, national leader of the Freedom Front Plus – in Oudtshoorn, who apparently, are jointly conspiring to blacken the DA’s name by accusing them; particularly Mcpherson, of arrogance. I suspect that this has more to do with the fact that The DA has such a good reputation for running municipalities well; across the country as a whole; and that this is frustrating the ANC and the Freedom Front Plus’s efforts to secure positions of power in local municipalities. As the Freedom Front Plus currently has only 6 seats in parliament, I don’t think the DA has too much to worry about.
Mcpherson has committed himself to curbing reckless spending by the Government; particularly regarding procuring new accommodation and office premises by making use of state owned properties instead; which could then allow the state to spend more funds on service delivery and promoting growth and more employment.
Here follows a brief description of some of the other new ministers and deputy ministers:
Heading the list is of course, our new Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuizen …
who I have no doubt, will attack his new task of turning agriculture with great energy and diligence. His considerable experience in South African politics, as well as successfully leading the opposition party the DA will stand him in good stead in his mission to turn South Africa’s agricultural sector into an engine for growth in the country.
President Ramaphosa offered the leader of the Freedom Front Plus Pieter Groenewald an opportunity to REBUILD the Correctional Services sector, which was accepted and am sure he will undertake that task responsibly and with great zeal; going forward. One has to wonder, however why he decided to ditch the controversial GNU coalition and join the ANC of all parties? after opposing them at every turn until now. Has he perhaps decided, along with Helen Ziller, Chairperson of Federal Council of the DA that the future of the GNU is questionable.
REBUILDING IS CERTAINLY THE OPERATIVE WORD FOR WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IN OUR COUNTRY ACROSS THE BOARD RIGHT NOW!.
Chris Pappas, the DA mayor of Umgeni in KZN appears to be doing a good job as Mayor, but he has his hands full negotiating on behalf of Mzinduzi residents, who wish to retain their rights to substantial income from Hilton Village, which falls under the Pietermaritzburg Municipality. The outcome of the negotiations will be interesting.
Ian Cameron of the DA, in his capacity of leading the portfolio committee on policing; given his impressive record of fighting criminal syndicates in the country is continuing to fight crime with great determination. He is intent on bringing the horrendous murder rate down substantially in our country.
There will be more updates on how cabinet ministers and deputy ministers are performing in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, it is fascinating to see how top ranked ANC Cadres are suddenly trying to present themselves as lily-white leaders, who after 30 years of blatantly stealing from the country are determined to present themselves as extremely concerned about citizen’s welfare. Fikile Mbalula now states the ANC’s determination to tackle corruption at all costs.
What is so ironic is that President Ramaphosa is about to be taken to task again about the disappearance of cash found in the infamous sofa cushion saga at Pala Pala, with further legal action already in the offing!
Who are they trying to kid?
Just as happened in 1994, with the emergence of democracy, the world is holding its breath to find out whether the GNU is going to work.
