It appears that Trump’s inauguration could be bad news for South Africa because; although anything is possible from 20 January 2025, onwards, indications are that Trump appears likely to reduce economic trade with South Africa because of South Africa’s ties with Russia, China and other BRICS members.
However, knowing Trump’s history of diplomacy or lack of same, it seems likely that in light of the obvious advantages that the US can gain from trade and working with South Africa in general, including the additional advantages of South Africa’s mineral wealth, and the trade route which links the Atlantic ocean via the Caribbean sea to the Pacific Ocean, for maritime transportation, as well as the military benefit of being able to do naval exercises off Simonstown; that Trump will want to do a deal with South Africa regarding trade.
Foreign relations, for Trump is all about doing deals.

On being made aware of Trump’s proposal to Putin, the Russian president flatly refused to accede to the demands. Media reports alleging that Trump had a phone call with Putin were denied by the Kremlin – another kite-flying exercise by Trump. He is a master at telling people what he thinks they want to hear. However, the downside of that; is that most of the time, he completely forgets what he said before.
Trump’s promise to his electorate that he will solve the Ukrainian problem in a day after inauguration is being revealed as pure fiction, as it is clear that Putin’s demands will not be readily accepted by the Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Donald Trump has proven himself to be a liar; he has cheated the American people who supported him throughout the GOP ranks and factions except for the fanatical, swamp-dwelling halfwits who still persist in supporting him. (perhaps it’s just the moonshine), It is clear that he is completely unable to deliver on all the promises he made to all Americans.
His so-called cabinet-in-waiting is already falling apart at the seams, and every time that happens, Trump replaces them with other idiots who are just as useless as their predecessors; so, heaven knows what collection of criminals will end up in the US cabinet.
The mutual admiration society between Elon Musk and Trump is rapidly breaking apart for obvious reasons.
Trump’s anti-immigration and deportation policy is being attacked from all sides; because it is totally impractical, extremely expensive for the US economy and betrays the vision for the US that was promulgated by the founding fathers of America and then put in place by the US Constitution and its amendments, That vision welcomed foreign refugees, offered them a safe place to live and opportunities to show their worth to America.
His track record as both a president and a man has shown him to be a criminal, a bully and a complete failure as a leader. He should be put in handcuffs and jailed.
As regards immigration policy; it is becoming clearer that the tech oligarchs such as Musk, Ramaswami, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg are all taking advantage of Trump’s immigration policy to extract maximum profit from the H1B immigration visa, to attract, trap and control foreign technical experts into contracts that make them slaves to the tech oligarchs, by negotiating visa conditions that suit the oligarchs in terms of length of contract, working hours, leave and payment conditions. They are paying lip service to Trump’s drive towards deporting foreigners, while using the H1B visas to secure talented, mainly Indian foreigners to work for the tech companies, while ripping them off and making maximum profit for themselves. The technical experts are too afraid to demand justice for themselves for fear of deportation.
The following scenario is an attempt to predict the likely course of events that will take place from January 2025 and thereafter. It’s pure speculation.
He will be inaugurated as President; and he will produce hundreds of executive orders, but will be unable to govern anything because he will have to spend most of his time in court; facing multiple court cases.
Trump will become increasingly desperate to sway the American people towards liking him and regarding him as a hero and saviour of the country; but will gradually lose more and more credibility as he continues to deteriorate mentally until it becomes crystal clear that he no longer has the capacity to govern; and when that happens, he will quietly be withdrawn from active presidency and be tucked away to a place where he will be unable to continue ruining America.
Hopefully, more capable others will be put in place to try and keep the nation on track; and in the fullness of time, more intelligent, capable and honest leaders will gradually take over his duties.
