As a freelance proofreader and editor, I try to keep in touch with what’s going on generally on our threatened planet. The impression I am getting now is that if business men and women do not adapt rapidly to the startling daily advances in technology, their businesses are destined to go downhill fast.
Here are some indicators we should be aware of:
- AI and robotics have and are changing our world and if we are not aware of what is happening, many of us could be left behind.
2. Robotics and AI are taking over in the manufacturing sector.
3. Plastic waste and pollution are destroying our planet. Our oceans are being destroyed by pollution; and our global food supply, of which fish and shellfish play a major part, is dwindling because of plastic waste destroying our coral reefs. The good side of that story is that modern, technology driven initiatives are continuing to dream-up ways to improve that situation.
4. Global warming is a reality, no matter what the ostriches and oligarchs say.
5. Elon Musk is planning to introduce flying cars into our lives and envisions trips to Mars for wealthy billionaires and Donald Trump’s sycophantic pals.
However, Elon will probably have to put those earth-shattering ideas on hold for now because of his and Donald Trump’s complete failure to ‘Make America Great Again, and the disastrous state of his finances, which mainly depend on the value of Tesla shares, which are tanking everywhere.
These two idiots, who are supposed to be running America have succeeded in virtually crashing the US economy with a likely threat of a worldwide recession.
The combined effects of Trump’s insane attempts at foreign policy, with his crazy tariffs are a throwback to the 1980s. That strategy didn’t work in his last term and it’s failing now.
He continues persecuting hundreds immigrants; treating them like criminals; sending them to live in tents in Guantanamo Bay or San Salvador. Meanwhile, many of them aren’t even criminals. They are just trying to keep their families alive in a dangerous world.
Trump is severely damaging American society; after many years as the most successful country in the world – Is he so obsessed with his own image as America’s saviour that he will go to any lengths to keep that illusion going? Does he want to destroy America?
Enough of that! The Americans voted for him. Now, they must sort it out.
6. Medical technology is progressing at an astounding rate.
7. A paperless world is already happening – when did you last write a cheque?
8. Businesses are becoming less reliant on permanent staff, and are increasingly using contracted experts to perform tasks. This situation creates a huge opportunity for resourceful, imaginative entrepreneurs to make huge profits using AI, Chat Gpt and other platforms.
9. the ‘global village’ that was first described a long time ago is becoming the way businesses are run today. I’ll warrant that many businesses don’t have offices any more. Businesses reside on their cellphones and their laptops; including our very own Busy Bee Editing, with customers throughout South Africa and in European countries.
10. Social media usage is running rampant, especially among the youth. Business owners are become more and more dependent on AI operation, robotics and social media because reputation and ‘word of mouth’ alone are no longer sufficient for marketing. Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is turning into Search All optimisation SAO.
11. A little bird told me that websites are becoming less effective and that videos are rapidly becoming the hottest fast track to success!
12. Industrial companies have been making extensive use of robotics in car assembly lines and other manufacturing operations.
These are just a few examples that show how our world is changing; so – Don’t be an ostrich!
