1. Proofreading and editing services are closely involved with the act of creating language and meaning. That is why we, at Busy Bee Editing are often tasked with the job of essentially rewriting a piece of English writing; whether a thesis, a biographical family history or a technical document or book. In such instances; even though the author may know his subject intimately; he or she is completely unable to convey its meaning effectively to the reader, due to his or her unfamiliarity with the English language.
  2. Often; university professors or business leaders insist on having documents edited by a professional editor; in order to achieve clarity of meaning, correct use of tenses, correcting inaccurate word selection etc.
  3. Most so-called proofreading programmes do not pick-up and correct poor use of English such as extensive duplication of content, split infinitives, mixed-up tenses, failing to identify or describe characters in a story, over-or inaccurate use of words or malapropisms.
  4. Often, authors ramble on; page after page with content that is completely irrelevant to the story-line or topic. The reader then gets bored with the subject matter and stops reading.
  5. It is the proofreader and/or editor’s job to edit the text down until the reader is left with clean, uncluttered prose; or poetry , for that matter; that is a pleasure to read and keeps the reader riveted to what he/she is reading.
  6. When it comes to proofreading and editing theses at all levels from undergraduate, to PHD level, Brenda and I have, over the past seven years, gained a great deal of experience in editing theses; in particular the importance of placing the text in the correct timeline; i.e. before or after a research study survey has taken place; as often there is confusion regarding correct tense use. Because we pay great attention to such detail when editing theses, many of our graduate and post-graduate students attain very high marks and sometimes even Cum laude level approbation.
  7. Undergraduate and post graduate students should bear in mind that a thesis is a stepping stone to your career and future prospects, so it is a good idea to invest in the quality of your theses, by allowing a professional editor to present it in the best possible way..
  8. We, as professional proofreaders and editors use such programmes as Grammarly or Perfect-It and other tools, which enable us to offer our customers a faster turn-around time; so we can then take on more work. However, such software can never replace professional proofreaders and editors who have had many years of experience in the field; thus enabling them to make any document as good as it can be!
